Dear Citizens of Lenoir County,
I want to sincerely apologize for not having a strong enough voice to encourage the council to pause the 4 cent rate reduction for further review. My intention was always to ensure that every decision made would be in the best interest of our community, and I regret that I was unable to secure more time for a thorough evaluation.
I know many of you are facing real challenges with utility bills, rent, and property taxes. Please know that there are resources available to help:
Utility & Rent Assistance:
Yokefellow Emergency Assistance
:Offers financial aid for rent, mortgage, utilities (electricity, fuel, natural gas, water), and medical needs.
One-time rent/mortgage help up to $300
One-time utility help per year

Lenoir County DSS Utility Assistance (LIHWAP):Water bill assistance for eligible households.

Utility Bill Financial Assistance (City of Kinston):Help available through Lenoir County DSS, ICOR, Greene Lamp, and Salvation Army.

Energy Assistance:
Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP):
One-time payment to help with heating bills for eligible households.
Property Tax Relief:
Present-Use Value Program:
Reduced tax assessment for property used for agriculture, horticulture, or forestry.
Circuit Breaker Property Tax Deferment:
Limits property taxes to a percentage of income for qualifying elderly or disabled homeowners.
Elderly or Disabled Exemption:
Reduces property taxes for qualifying seniors and disabled residents.
