It is important to recognize the context and timing surrounding the recent protest filed by attorney Sean Keenan against my candidacy for Kinston City Council. I have been on the election ballot since early July, and until now, there was no challenge to my candidacy. In fact, just weeks ago, Mr. Keenan and I stood together as a team, united in our concerns about city council actions.
In last month, I personally reached out to Mr. Keenan’s office regarding mistreatment I experienced at a city council meeting. His secretary assured me that he would be happy to help. This willingness to support me then stands in stark contrast to his current protest against my candidacy.
The timing of this protest raises questions, especially considering my recent public stance regarding the Charlie Kirk vigil held in Kinston—a stance that I made clear and public. It is difficult not to see this protest as being motivated by more than just procedural concerns. In today’s climate, race is not only about color but also about political identity and party affiliation. When actions are taken that seem to target individuals based on their beliefs or the communities they represent, it is important to call attention to those dynamics.
As an attorney in this community, it is vital to remember that we should NEVER place PERSONALITIES over PRINCIPLES nor should we use retaliation tactics simply because of the power we possess in law. The legal profession carries a responsibility to act with fairness, integrity, and respect for all members of the community—regardless of personal or political differences.

I remain committed to serving the people of Kinston with transparency and integrity. My focus is on building a stronger community, and I will continue to stand up for what is right, regardless of political pressure or opposition.
