Demand for Change: Negligence and Unacceptable Living Conditions at Paylor Apartments, Kinston Towers, and Six Churches Elderly Folks Home

The time for polite requests is over. The residents of Paylor Apartments, Kinston Towers, and Six Churches Old Folks Home in Kinston, NC, are DONE being ignored, mistreated, and forced to live in squalor. These buildings, meant to provide safe and dignified housing for our seniors and vulnerable citizens, have become symbols of everything wrong with our city’s leadership and housing authorities.

Paylor Apartments: A Month Without Hot Water—And That’s Just the Beginning

Imagine being elderly or disabled and going over a month without hot water. That’s the reality for residents at Paylor Apartments. This isn’t a minor inconvenience—it’s a violation of basic human dignity. Residents have reached out, desperate and angry, after weeks of cold showers and unanswered maintenance requests. This is not the first time Paylor has been in the spotlight for neglect. Reports of broken elevators, pest infestations, and unsafe conditions have circulated for years, yet nothing changes. But the city officials claim to acre about ALL ?

“I have arthritis and taking cold showers every day is painful. I’ve called the office so many times, but they just tell me to wait. How much longer do we have to suffer?” — Mrs. Johnson, resident for 8 years

“My grandchildren used to visit, but now I’m embarrassed. The hallways smell, and there are bugs everywhere. We deserve better than this.” — Mr. Lee, retired veteran

Kinston Towers: Infested, Ignored, and Disrespected

Kinston Towers, another supposed “safe haven” for seniors, is plagued by bugs, broken appliances, and a management team that treats residents with open contempt. Residents have described the building as “a dump,” with cockroaches and bedbugs running rampant. Promises of security and improvements, especially those made by former board member Anthony Kennedy, have proven empty. Where is the accountability? Where is the compassion?

“I woke up with bedbug bites all over my arms. When I complained, the manager told me to buy my own spray. I’m on a fixed income—I can’t afford that!” — Ms. Carter, resident

“We were told there would be security, but I haven’t seen anyone. People come and go at all hours. I don’t feel safe in my own home.” — Mr. Simmons, resident

Six Churches Old Folks Home: Where Are the Watchdogs?

Six Churches Old Folks Home is no better. Residents report similar issues: poor maintenance, rude staff, and a board that seems more interested in protecting itself than the people it’s supposed to serve. These are our parents, grandparents, and neighbors—why are they being treated like second-class citizens?

“The staff act like we’re a burden. I asked for help with my leaking sink and was told to ‘deal with it.’ I feel invisible here.” — Mrs. Evans, resident

“We have community rooms that are always locked. They say it’s for our safety, but it just feels like they don’t want us gathering or talking about our problems.” — Mr. Daniels, resident

Board Members and City Officials: You Are Failing Us

Let’s be clear: the board members responsible for these facilities have failed. Residents say the board is rude, unresponsive, and unwilling to fight for them. City officials, you are complicit in this neglect. You have the power to demand better, to enforce standards, and to hold these boards accountable—but you do nothing. Enough is enough.

Residents Speak Out

One resident shared, “We’ve been without hot water for weeks. They keep telling us it’ll be fixed, but nothing happens. We feel forgotten.” Another said, “The bugs are everywhere. I’m afraid to have my grandchildren visit.”

A Call to Action

We demand immediate repairs, pest control, and a complete overhaul of management at these facilities. We demand city officials step up, visit these buildings, and see the conditions for themselves. We demand respect and dignity for every resident.

Kinston, it’s time to stand up for our most vulnerable. Share this post, contact your city council, and demand change. Our seniors deserve better—and we won’t stop fighting until they get it.

A Final Word: Stop the Lies, Start the Action

Let’s stop pretending these problems don’t exist. Residents and neighbors know the truth: these buildings have become hotspots for prostitution and excessive drug use. The lack of real security has turned what should be safe havens for our seniors into dangerous environments where crime flourishes and residents live in fear.

Enough with the empty promises and media soundbites about “security.” If the board and city officials actually cared, they would invest in real, visible, and effective security measures—cameras, patrols, and staff who actually show up and do their jobs. The solution isn’t complicated. It’s about caring enough to act.

Kinston deserves better. Our seniors deserve better. The time for talk is over. We demand real security, real accountability, and real change—now.

If you have more resident stories, specific incidents, or want to name particular board members or officials, let me know and I can add those to the reports filed with the proper agencies. Thank You!!!!
