NC Halloween Booze It & Lose It Campaign: What Residents Need to Know

As Halloween approaches, North Carolina law enforcement agencies are ramping up efforts to keep roads safe through the statewide Halloween Booze It & Lose It campaign. Launched on October 24, 2025, and running through Halloween, this initiative covers all 100 counties in North Carolina.

What is Booze It & Lose It? The campaign is led by the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program and the N.C. Department of Transportation. Its goal is to deter impaired driving, especially during holidays when alcohol-related crashes tend to spike.

How Police Operate During the Campaign:

  • Law enforcement agencies increase patrols and set up sobriety checkpoints across the state.

  • Officers are on the lookout for impaired drivers, with zero tolerance for driving while intoxicated (DWI).

  • The campaign is highly visible, with press conferences and public messaging urging drivers to plan ahead and use designated sober drivers.

Key North Carolina DWI Statistics:

  • In 2024, there were 11,782 alcohol-related crashes in North Carolina.

  • These crashes resulted in 361 deaths statewide.

  • During last year’s Halloween enforcement period alone, police made 588 DWI arrests.

The Message to Residents: If you plan to celebrate Halloween, make arrangements for a sober ride home. Increased police presence means a higher chance of being stopped if you drive under the influence. The goal is to save lives and prevent tragedies on North Carolina roads.
